THUPPAKKI – ON TARGET

Thuppakki –  A Diwali release for Vijay amidst sky high expectations. With Murgadoss directing a Vijay film for the first time I expected a different Vijay film. The film not only lived up to it’s top billing but surpassed expectations.
The plot- An intelligent cat and mouse game between a military officer and a terrorist villan.
Though the film starts off with the usual Vijay elements like an intro song, comedy etc, the film picks up pace midway through the first half leading to a thrilling interval block. The second half is more of how the hero and the villan guess each other’s moves leading to a final showdown.
Vijay puts in a subdued performance but looks smart and stylish. After a while we get to see a different Vijay. Hope this trend continues in his future films. Kajal Aggarwal’s job is to look pretty in an out and out hero film and she looks ravishing. Vidyut Jamwal as the antagonist suits the role to the tee and matches Vijay move for move. Sathyan does a neat job in a worthy supporting role.
Harris Jeyaraj’s repetitive tunes and the usual Vijay elements which have been forced into the story are the only sore points in an otherwise engaging story.
The real heroes of the film though are A.R Murgadoss and Santhosh Sivan. Santhosh Sivan’s camerawork speaks in every frame and makes the film a visual spectacle. Kudos to Murgadoss as well for following up 7 am Arivu with an intelligent film.
Thuppakki – An out and out Diwali treat for Vijay fans!
