MAYAKKAM ENNA- TRIUMPH OF THE SPIRIT

I went into the movie hall to see Mayakkam Enna with a lot of expectations considering the quality of films the Selvaraghavan- Dhanush combo had given us earlier. And gladly I wasn’t disappointed.

Mayakkam Enna tells the story of Karthik Swaminathan a freelance photographer who aspires to make it big as wildlife photographer. It is a moving tale of the trials and tribulations he endures along the way before he finally makes it big.

Dhanush as Karthik Swaminathan lives the role. It is another great outing for Dhanush after Adukalam. Whether its love, guilt or frustration Dhanush just conveys these emotions in his own unique way that makes the character endearing to the audience.

Another character which deserves a mention is Richa Gangopadhyay. It is a promising debut for the young actress. As a modern girl in the first half and as a doting wife who understands her husband’s suffering she proves a perfect foil for Dhanush.

Of the supporting cast Sundar Ramu as Sundar and Raviprakash as Madhesh Krishnasamy impress.

Music by G.V Prakash is apt for the film.. It does remind you of 7G Rainbow Colony in some portions though. Another aspect of the film which deserves a special mention is cinematography by Ramji. It is the soul of the film and helps us see the film through the eyes of a photographer.

After Aayirathil Oruvan Selva returns with a subject at which he is good -portraying human emotions. The Climax is poetic ( Inspired from “A BEAUTIFUL MIND” ? ). The humorous portions in the first half proves the director’s finesse. The only sore point being the pace of the film in the second half.  All in all Mayakkam Enna is a perfect Selvaraghavan – Dhanush treat about pursuing one’s passion.
Hats off…
